On 11 December, as part of the high-level segment of COP 25, currently being held in Madrid, HE Mr. Jean-Luc Van Klaveren, Monaco's Ambassador to Spain, delivered the national intervention of the Principality. The Ambassador detailed the action plan of the Prince's Government to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while recalling the solidarity of the Principality towards developing countries.
Discussions are under way to finalize the Paris Agreement Rules Manual, before the crucial 2020 deadline, which is to see its effective implementation.
While the latest report of the United Nations Environment Program on global climate activity shows that the current trajectory will not limit global warming to 1.5 ° C, this Conference was placed by the Chilean Presidency under the sign of the rise of collective ambition. Throughout the COP 25, Monaco has participated actively in the intergovernmental negotiations, as a State Party but also through the Environmental Integrity Group, a negotiating group whose Principality is a member alongside Switzerland, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, Georgia and Liechtenstein.
