The Permanent Mission of the Principality of Monaco to the United Nations in New York participated in the 59 th session of the Commission for Social Development (CES), which was held from 8 to 17 February 2021. This subsidiary body of the Economic Council and social has chosen as the priority theme of this session: "The transition to sustainable development and social justice: digital technology at the service of social development and the well-being of all", a theme perfectly suited to the current context.
Alyson Calem-Sangiorgio, Third Secretary at the Permanent Mission of the Principality of Monaco to the United Nations, took the floor during the general debate in order to outline the essential role of digital technology for the Principality of Monaco, in particular through Extended Monaco and Monaco Santé programs, but also the importance of a secure digital sector, provided in the Principality thanks to blockchain technology and the work of the Nominative Information Control Commission (CCIN).
This session also resulted in the adoption of a resolution on digital technology for social development. The Monegasque delegation, aware of the importance of playing sports at home, in particular in the context of a pandemic, has obtained that this theme be included in the resolution on the main theme. The Commission therefore recognizes the potential of digital technologies in the practice of sport and physical activity.
